1bottlered wine(the cheaper the better - we typically buy Cabernet Sauvignon)
1bottlewhite wine(again, the cheaper the better)
1cupcoconut rum(not traditional but this is to make it gluten-free)
1cupraisins
2smallslices of fresh ginger
8cardamom podscrushed
2cinnamon stickscrushed
8whole cloves
Instructions
Heat water and sugar in a pot until a simple syrup is formed
Add in the wine, coconut rum, and spices (including the orange peel and raisins)
Heat mixture over low heat (to prevent alcohol from evaporating out too much) for 30-40 minutes until flavors are well infused
When mixture is warm, strain out spices and enjoy!
Notes
Note: this will not be exactly like the traditional Swedish beverage as it's not made with aquavit (an alcohol you can only get in Sweden).For easy spice removal, try placing spices in a tea ball or tying them up in cheesecloth.
