mourning our past body is something I don't think is talked about enough in the celiac space ⠀

and it's definitely not talked about enough in the healthcare field ⠀
⠀
your body changed after a celiac diagnosis and your feelings around your body might change too - for better or for worse ⠀
⠀
and your relationship with your body can not be neglected ⠀
⠀
you can't heal if you don't think you're deserving of energy to fuel repair

you can't heal if you fight your body's protective mechanisms

you can't heal if you are still at war with your body

the biggest change for me?
my body is more nourished, in every sense of the word.

body image is complex and is certainly impacted by celiac ⠀

anytime our body changes or our relationship with our body changes, our body image can change ⠀
⠀
and this is the case with celiac ⠀
⠀
celiac can impact body image because with celiac: ⠀
- our physical symptoms can change ⠀
- our weight can change ⠀
- our self-care looks different ⠀
- we have to eat differently ⠀
- we have to build new skills ⠀
and not everyone believes us at first (or sometimes ever) when we tell them about our body's new needs ⠀
⠀
and now we deal with people gaslighting our body's reactions, doubting our body's needs, and judging whether or not our body's look "sick enough"... ⠀
⠀
...as if our appearance is the only proof we are sick, as if is the only justification for respecting our needs... ⠀
⠀
maybe you body image has no connection with celiac, maybe it does... ⠀
⠀
regardless that's what we're exploring in today's journal prompt ⠀
