People living gluten-free are not all the same... People living gluten-free are not all the same... ⠀
⠀
In fact people living with celiac are not all the same... ⠀
⠀
A lot of people (even health care professionals) fail to understand the complexities that go into gluten-free living regardless of why you're gluten-free. ⠀
⠀
One of the reasons I became a dietitian was to end the confusion around the differences. Was to make sure that the gluten-free as a community became better understood, not just my celiac friends. ⠀
⠀
Since my first "messages from you gluten-free friends" went so well, I thought I'd do a part two. ⠀
⠀
THIS time I have a blank message for you to fill out yourself at the end! ⠀
⠀
Share this to your stories with your message and tag me so I can see it! ⠀

Can gluten exposure cause neurological symptoms in Can gluten exposure cause neurological symptoms in people with celiac?

Not like we needed proof, but @beyondceliac did a survey on people with celiac and their self-reported gluten exposure symptoms

The following were the symptoms listed and how many people said they experienced them:
👉 Brain fog or difficulty concentrating (86%)
👉 Headache or migraine (71.4%)
👉 Joint pain (63.7%)
👉 Tingling or numbness in hands/feet (47%)
👉 Problems with muscle coordination or ataxia (26%)
👉 Difficulty or pain when swallowing (19.1%)

For those who experience these symptoms, we knew they were our truth and it's nice to see them starting to be recognized. Nothing feels worse than to have a doctor write off or discredit your experience.

I hope these results not only help spread awareness around celiac and it's complexity in the general public...

But also spread awareness in the health care fields that celiac doesn't have a "look" and it isn't just characterized by a stomachache.

🤔 Struggling with these lingering symptoms? I'm happy to talk about how I might be able to help! Just send me a message.
Celiac disease is an #invisibleillness and it's no Celiac disease is an #invisibleillness and it's not always invisible...

bringing this graphic back since so many of you seemed to relate to it! ⠀
⠀
you might see symptoms of celiac appear as: ⠀
- dark circles under the eyes ⠀
- acne ⠀
- rash (DH) ⠀
- bloating ⠀
- brittle nails ⠀
- weight fluctuation ⠀
and more! ⠀
⠀
👇When is celiac disease not invisible for you? 👇

P.s. if you’re struggling with lingering symptoms, let’s chat! I can help.

P.s.s. celiac symptoms should only be present if you’re still healing your small intestine or if you’ve been exposed to gluten. If they are chronic, consider discussing other causes with your health care provider!
