Healthy Homemade Snickers Bar

All foods fit, it’s important to remember that.

So while this Healthy Homemade Snickers Bar might be a more wholesome alternative to buying a Snickers bar at your local convenience mart, that doesn’t mean it has to be the best choice.

For me, however, buying a Snickers bar from my local convenience store is not an option. Making it at home is my only option.

Why?

Because I don’t eat foods with corn syrup, or any other junky additive. Not even on occasion.

Additionally, Snickers are GUARANTEED to be gluten-free, meaning their manufacturer urges you to read the labels of their candies to make sure they are safe. And you know what? I read enough labels as it is. I’ll pass.

Basically, it’s a personal choice as to why I don’t indulge.

Do your views align with mine? Are you just trying to make homemade snickers because, well why not?

Whether you’re doing it to share the love with your family, or you’re doing it for a healthier (and I say this lightly) option, this recipe is for you!

BONUS: This recipe is GUARANTEED to be gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan!

Healthy Homemade Snickers Bar

Course: dessert, Holidays, Snacks
Cuisine: Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free, Vegan / Plantbased
Servings: 8 Medium Sized Bars

Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1/2 cup Peanut Butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose gluten-free flour I used namaste
  • 1 pinch of salt

For the Caramel

  • 1/4 cup Peanut Butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

For the Chocolate

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips I used enjoy life (they're vegan and GF)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

Instructions

For the Base

  • In a food processor, process the base ingredients (peanut butter, gluten-free all-purpose flour, honey, and salt) until smooth
  • One the base mixture is smooth, place it onto a small baking sheet in a thin (roughly 1/4 inch) rectangular layer
  • Place the baking sheet with the base layer in the freezer and start making the caramel layer

For the Caramel Layer

  • Melt the ingredients for the caramel layer in a saucepan until well-combined and semi thick
  • Allow the caramel to cool and slowly thicken into a thick consistency (you want it to be thin enough that your can easily work with it but thick enough that it won't flow off of the base layer)
  • Once it's at the right consistency, pour or spread the caramel layer overtop the base layer in as even of a layer as possible
  • Place the baking sheet with the candies on it back in the freezer and begin making the chocolate covering

For the Chocolate Layer

  • In a microwave safe bowl (or in a pot over medium-low heat) melt the coconut oil and chocolate chips
  • Once melted, remove the candy from the freezer and cut into bars
  • Either dip bars in choclate coating and place back on baking tray, spoon the chocolate onto the bars on the baking tray, or lastly, drizzle the chocolate onto the candies on the baking tray
  • Once coated as you desire, place the candies on the baking tray back in the freezer one last time to harden up before enjoying!
